KVMR-FM/Nevada City CA offers special coverage of filmmaker Michael Moore’s visit to the California legislature in Sacramento this week and the premiere of his forthcoming film “Sicko.”

Produced by KVMR News Director Mike Thornton, these two programs may be used in whole or in part, free of charge, by all community, public, college, low power and noncommercial radio stations. KVMR-FM/Nevada City asks for producer credit, where appropriate:

1.
“Sicko in Sacramento” Produced by KVMR News Director Mike Thornton, 15:54, available on Audioport (Specials), PRX and at this site.

Includes an excerpt of a mother’s testimony on how her child died after being denied care at a hospital because it wasn’t her primary care provider, a talk with State Senator Sheila Kuehl (co-author of SB 840, a single payer health care reform bill) on Moore’s film and a nurses’ rally, and a one-on-one interview with Michael Moore about the day’s activities, the film premiere and its significance.

2.
“Michael Moore Testifies at California’s State Capitol”, Produced by KVMR News Director Mike Thornton, 58:36, available in MP3 at this site.

Michael Moore, director of the scathing new film “Sicko,” testifies this week about the horrors of America’s health care industry at a California legislative briefing chaired by State Senator Shelia Kuehl (co-author of SB 840, a single payer health care reform bill). Moore details some of the abuses he found in insurance, managed care, corporate hospitals and pharmaceutical companies while researching “Sicko.”

During the hour-long testimony, you’ll meet these people from “Sicko” as they tell their stories to legislators at the briefing:
–A whistleblowing doctor whose conscience could no longer let her deny medical services to patients who were “too expensive.”
–A rescue mission activist who exposes patient dumping by hospitals discarding critically ill patients who cannot afford to pay their bills.
–A mother who took her critically ill child to the nearest hospital, only to have her primary care provider deny services to the child. The infant died by the time she reached the appropriate Kaiser Permanente facility.

“Sicko” — set for national release June 29 — was screened for nurses, doctors, legislators and invited guests on Tuesday after the briefing and a Capitol rally.

KVMR’s coverage comes with support from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Thanks,

Steve Baker
KVMR Program Director
